This Is Ivy League

So who's going tonight?

My friends from This Is Ivy League are releasing their new CD and playing a show at The Knitting Factory tonight. I have a feeling that this is gonna be an amazing album...I already have their EP playing on my favorite playlist non-stop. My favorites including "P is for Penelope," "London Bridges," "Crown of Love," and ok, fine..."June," too. For those who seem skeptical, this is nothing like Cobra Starship in which both Suarez and Ryland are band members of. This is a completely different project of theirs with a completely different sound. I highly recommend checking it out. Oh, and don't forget to check out the beautiful and lovely Miss Lauren Ashley on the Trumpet and Tamborine. She's adorable, you can't miss her.

I honestly don't know if I'll make it in time, cause SOMEBODY is getting their taxes done (talk about last minute)...but I'm definitely gonna do all I can to make it cause I'm so stoked on this.

Obsessions

For those that don't know...I have a lot of obsessions. Since I sometimes overwhelm myself with all of these, let me just make a short list:

Unicorns, zebras, mini horses, any horses, owls, foxes, baby deer, strawberries, cherries, cupcakes, candy, ice cream (non-dairy, of course), colors (lots of colors), yellow, rainbows (I'm not gay, I'm just a modern day Punky Brewster), Paris, French, vintage (anything vintage!...especially clothes), antiques, photography, angel wings, fun hats, shoes and boots, ebay, gmail, kidrobot, orange juice, salads, vegetables, vegan food, rivers, lakes, streams, blankets, fireplaces, hot chocolate, cozy corners, ...gosh, there's probably so much more that I'm forgetting, but you get the idea.

Anyways, I came across Iggy & Lou Lou and once again gained another obsession. Their website is so amazing, and it drew me in like a little kid to a fairytale. I'm in awe. Every creation they have is phenomenally fantastic. I want each and every one!

Blame Parker

...cause this is probably what my wedding will look like:
Thank you, Jessica, for sending this to me.
PS...My future husband would like to speak to you.

Google reader is like TIVO for the internet

...and it's been my biggest obsession/distraction in life since I rediscovered it 1 year AFTER Dagger said I need to get on that.

I have no idea why it took me so long to realize that this is an essential tool for my daily living, but really it's as important as reading my inbox every morning when I get into work. Just subscribe to all the blogs and websites you love, and they'll be so easy to follow, I promise. It lets you know when they get updated and it's a great way to keep tabs on your friends' blogs. Cause really, who has the time to surf the web all day long with these busy lives we lead...AND, has Erica ever steered me wrong? I think not. She always knows what's up.

Basically, you need to have a gmail account to use this, but if you don't have one already, you should...and that is all.

Guilt is like a handbag

...or is one!

I suppose you can say I wanted to celebrate the first day of spring? Well, it wasn't technically the first day, but it was the first time NYC has felt warmth since 2007, and I got to walk to Broadway without wearing a jacket.

Anyways, yea...the guilt is finally settling in after my purchase of this Hayden-Harnett bag, yesterday.

I only have four ways to condone this:

A) I bought it at a sample sale for only $175 (originally $460).
B) It's not like every other boring Louis Vuitton/Prada/Coach bag out there.
C) It can easily be acceptable for Spring, Summer, & Fall!
and
D) I figured, if I couldn't justify it after about a week...I would sell it on ebay.

Oh! And did I mention...it's yellow & orange!

Ooof...maybe I should mention that I bought this Cristie Alfie bag, too, while I'm at it.

But I only bought it for $30 (originally $115)!!!

I highly recommend this super cute designer. Some of her stuff is adorable and affordable!

Try and tell me you don't like cats.

I got this via Jessica's shared google reader. It beyond cuted me out, and I could not refrain from posting.

His little purrs are what gets me.

And just because you can't get enough super cute things...
a wittle piggy that I wike.
He's so funny wooking. :-P

Eggs in a...gag!

Something about this makes me tilt my head and say, "Really?"

I think Gizmodo said it best:
Don't have 12 minutes and/or the ability to boil water? Someone has gone and done the impossible work of hard-boiling eggs—and sticking them in a bag—for you. Sure, they cost 400% more than regular eggs, come in a recession dozen (9 or 10 to a bag), and were given a glowing review of tasting "stale, rubbery, and hard", but hey, it's a time-saver.

Models, Gossip, & Girls...oh my!

Could this be a fond farwell for Fatima. Gah, I sure hope so!

The girl is drop dead gorgeous, but she needs to GO HOME! Here is a preview/spoiler-ish clip from next week's episode:

As for an episode from Girliscious a few weeks back...this is when you know their ratings were suffering. How to fix such a situation? Add a pole.

Gah, this show couldn't bore me more, I can't believe I watch it.

And finally, some good tv: Gossip Girl

Here is the cast/crew at the 25th annual Paley Festival discussing the show and what's upcoming to finish its first season run.

No, really, please leave.

"Seriously, I'm engaged. See? THIS...is my ring. And we all have boyfriends."
"Well you're not married yet."
"Trust me, I am...and WE. DON'T. WANT TO TALK. TO. YOU."

If I can begin to even do last night justice by telling you how many times we got approached by the biggest douchebags EVER, I would feel so accomplished...maybe in attempt to help other guys from being complete idiots in the future.

Yesterday, 4/5ths of the Curbside Gang (Decker is in China) headed to Kels for some wedding planning and quality hangz. It involved My Little Ponies, Playdough, and Sparks. We stayed in to watch SNL before heading out to the "after afterparty." For those that don't know, SNL after afterparties don't begin until 4:00am...and the location and password isn't disclosed until after the show. This meant we had plenty of time to continue pregaming...hence we went to Continental around 2:00am for cheap drinks (though, one Sparks was enough for my night).

I have no idea how it came about, but apparently we must have been the only girls out in Manhattan. Guys just kept flocking to us. It wasn't even like we were out in the open. We had our own booth, minding our own buisness, and deep in conversation...obviously not interested in anyone around us. However, guys thought this was a perfect opportunity for them to make their move.

One started with introducing his friend. First of all, we didn't hear either of your names, nor did we care. Usually, we would just politely say, "sorry, we're not interested," but that didn't work with them. I thought our glaring eyes was sure fire way to get our message across: not interested! Nope, our looks of disbelief and disgust didn't phase them. Jessica was forced to show her ring, and told him we were ALL taken. Oh, but this only enticed them more...one even saying, "well you're not married yet." Right, buddy, cause your our dream guy. We, finally, just turned our heads away and started talking as if he wasn't there. It only took him 3 minutes to actually walk away. We should have just said we were pregnant (as we drank our alcoholic beverages).

So case #2 came along not more than just a few minutes after the first episode. At first, I thought he was just gonna make fun of the dudes trying to hit on us before, but no, prince charming was there to "rescue" us. Sorry, lad, but we don't need a hero. Erica began by being polite, "I'm sure your a really nice guy..." but when he continued with, "Oh no, I'm a douchebag," who were we not to agree? Finally, Kelly had to say, "Really, we're not interested. No, really, please leave." Our less-than-friendly attitudes just seemed so obvious...I mean, at least, I thought it did. I guess I could be wrong.

Before we left the Cont, someone commented on how "sexy" Parker's glasses were. Yes, we know she's hott but really, what was up with this night? It didn't stop there.

The cat calls on the street didn't phase me...they never do. I could have just gotten hit by a bus, had a broken nose, and a black eye and still gotten hoots and hollers (random sidenote: NYC builds confidence).

Walking into the afterparty was no different. There must have 3 or 4 other extremely similar situations on hand. Including this guy, Dave, who said my name was unique and "erotic." Thank you, Dave, for making me feel like a porn star. Really? Leave us alone, we just want to dance! Even a bouncer got in my way to block me from the path to my friends and said, "you're not leaving yet, are you?" I felt like saying, "I will if people won't stop being so creepy!!!"

We actually did end up having a very fun night, though, dancing to the oldies 'till the wee hours of the morning. It made us feel like we were back at PMC. I didn't go to bed until 7:30 in the morning only to pass out for a few hours. I have a hard time sleeping when the sun is up. So here I am on 4 hours of sleep and wondering what to do for the rest of the day.

Pop is back...that's a V Fact!

Last night I went out to shoot the newest and hottest boy band to hit the market. Think N'sync but more adorable. Ok, I'm sure they're super hott to the 15 & 16 years out there....Actually, what am I talking about? I'm a cougar....they're hott!

Anyways, their name is V Factory. You can check out their myspace, but for now, refrain from googling them. You might come up with something very work inappropriate (come on, Warner, buy that ish out). You've got 5 (*ahem* hence the roman numeral "V") heartthrobs. Each boy fits the bill with their own boy band persona. There's Asher (the JTim of the group with his abercrombie looks), Jared (the charming one that dates Ashley Tisdale from High School Musical), Nathaniel (the stylish one with the bad boy looks), Nicky T (the comedian and the one sure to get all the laughs), and Wesley (the super friendly, adorable one...the baby of the bunch). I really don't think I can pick my favorite. They are all too cute, super sweet, and I totes adore them.

I began by taking group shots on the stage before the show. They all have Crest white perfect smiles, and are extremely photogenic...perfect for those awkward in-action performance dance shots. They will be sure to melt girls' hearts across the world. After I was done shooting them, they hopped down from the stage and reintroduced themselves to me. I actually felt intimated as they surrounded me like little puppies wagging their tails. It was quite refreshing, though, to be greeted with eager smiles instead of the "I'm so cool cause I'm a rockstar" vibe.

After our little mingling sesh, it came time for them to go back stage and prepare for their entrance. The room was filled with about 100 guests including all sorts of music execs and their teenage daughters, major magazines publications, and anybody that could influence the future careers of these blooming pop stars. Tommy Page (former 80's popstar), who is responsible for the birth of V Factory, introduced the boys. Then, further, came down a screen from above that showed off a clever video montage of the boys introducing themselves. Music began pumping out of the speakers and the fourteen year olds and their moms with video cameras began cheering, clapping, and "woooo'ing." I actually had to hold myself back from smiling like a giddy schoolgirl...I had to try and act cool, ya know? I had pictures to take. I was competing with the likes of Us Weekly and Cosmogirl for lil' ol Jiscilla.com and the Warner Bros blog.

For their first New York show, these boys are well on their way to superstardom...at least, I think so. Their beats are super catchy and definitely dancetastic. E-40 collaborated with them on one of their tracks called "She Bad" (a favorite of mine). You'll have to try hard not to sing or dance along. Actually, speaking of...boys, if you are reading and are looking for some back up dancers, call me. I am a dancer; I have experience. I will dance my heart out for you. Seriously...call me.

After the show, they got bombarded with little girls, their moms, aunts and uncles for autographs and pictures. I even had to get in there. I grabbed Jared for a picture (literally grabbed him...awkwardly). We got stuck in a tango with a "which way do I go? You go left, I go...wait I go left, you go..." move. We might have been holding each other for what seemed a bit too long...long enough for me to worry that A. Tis was gonna come out from the back room and say, "Get your hands off my man!"

Ahhhh *sigh*...what it's like to feel like a pre-pubescent teen again. And this is just the start. I'm just so ready for pop to make a comeback.

Please excuse the fact that I look hideous and have no makeup on.

PS...I will post pictures from the showcase this weekend (that and from The Veronicas show).

Butter me up!

This is so not the post I wanted to make right now, but the one I do...I simply can't.

So instead, some hideous fact about butter vs. margarine:

Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys. When it killed the turkeys, the people who had put all the money into the research wanted a payback so they put their heads together to figure out what to do with this product to get their money back. It was a white substance with no food appeal so they added the yellow coloring and sold it to people to use in place of butter.

So, now, do you know the difference between margarine and butter? Read on to the end...it gets interesting!

*Both have the same amount of calories.
*Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams compared to 5 grams.
*Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical Study.
*Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods. Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few only because they are added!
*Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavors of other foods.
*Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around for less than 100 years .

And now, for Margarine:
*Very high in transfatty acids.
*Triple risk of coronary heart disease.
*Increases total cholesterol and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol) and lowers HDL cholesterol, (the good cholesterol)
*Increases the risk of cancers up to five fold.
*It lowers quality of breast milk.
*It decreases immune response.
*It decreases insulin response.

And here's the most disturbing
fact....

Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC.

You can try this yourself:
Purchase a tub of margarine and leave it in your garage or shaded area. Within a couple of days you will note a couple of things:
* no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something).
* it does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional value ; nothing will grow on it. Even those teeny weeny microorganisms will not a find a home to grow. Why? Because it is nearly plastic .. Would you melt your Tupperware and spread that on your toast?

What to do, what to do?

It's quite the beautiful day...

My photoshoot got canceled, my apartment is actually clean, my roomie left for the day, and now I have nothing to do.

I think I'll go to the market, pick up a nice cantelope and maybe walk around my island.

I'm kinda in a great mood even though my shoot got canceled.

Maybe I'll even start a new book.

PS...I finished The Time Traveler's Wife and I HIGHLY recommend it to everyone. It is SUCH a great book! I swear, even my guy friends that read it have loved it, too.

The Veronicas

It's been a busy week...and only getting more crazy this weekend. I have a friend up from Nashville, last night I had to shoot The Veronicas at Hiro Ballroom, tonight I begin my West Coast Swing classes (uh, hello, Lacey Schwimmer wannabe), tomorrow I have a photoshoot from 11:30 till about 7 at night, and Sunday I get to show my friend around NYC.

Let me just start by saying (in a very Justin Smith-kinda way), The Veronicas: totally cute. I just started listening to their music this week, and I love it! They might not be so well-known in the states, but in Australia they are like (as one of their managers? said) the "Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen of pop-rock music." Apparently, they're all over tabloids, fans go balistic, and everything down unda. Really, they're friggin' adorable. Check out this video our friend Ryan from Take the Crown is in (I bet you'll be dancing around with your hands up in the air by the end):

Simma down, son

Is it just me or is there something wrong with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Claudia Schiffer doing THIS kind of photoshoot together.
Isn't she old enough to be his mom?
Ok, maybe not. She would have been 11 when she had him...but still.
Maybe I just still picture him in 10 Things I Hate About You and 3rd Rock from the Sun.

*edit: Parker just brought something to my attention: I should not be talking. (I pretty much only date younger guys) Eeep. :-P

Bar none bar car

After almost a decade of traveling via MTA: Metro North, I never knew a single train ride could be so exciting. James and I might be taking the bar car from now on...just saying.

Setting: Metro North
Scene: the bar car

A vexatious woman, her husband, and child were jabbering away about whatever it was they were so buoyant about, when all the sudden, she fumbles in her seat. The half-full plastic cup of red wine she, one minute, had in her hand was now splattered all over the floor, her 10-year old son, James, and 2 other surrounding buisnessmen. She (over)apologetically wiped down the leg of one man's dockers and proceeded to mock the incident over and over again. Thankfully she left with her family after about 30 minutes.

Not too long after, we're at a stop, the doors open and people are exiting the train. Next thing you know, we hear "Stop the train! Help! My boy!" Or, at least, that's what I thought I heard. Apparently, a small child went after something he dropped on the track and fell in the crack between the train and the platform. They quickly retrieved the boy (he didn't fall all the way down), but sure caused enough excitement to get the conductor's attention and the passengers out of their seats. Phew, that was a close call.

Well the fun didn't stop there. Next thing we know, there is a full-on fist fight between two grown men. They were balding and in their 40's or 50's cursing up a storm and throwing punches at one another. All I kept thinking was: "OMG, do they have a gun?" I suppose that mean's I watch too much CSI and Law & Order? Anyway, two MTA employees broke them up, and wouldn't let anyone off the train until the police arrived to escort the two overbearing men off board.

But mom, the elephants made me late!

I swear, I'm not lying!

No, really, its true! I have proof!

The other night I was in a cab for 45 minutes (I'm too lazy to do the whole subway thing at 11:00 at night, especially when it takes an hour to get there) on my way to Angels & Kings. When I asked the cab driver what was taking so long, "Just go down 2nd Ave...it'll take 10 minutes!" I said. His response, at first, made me kind of angry.

I thought the he was messing with me when he said, "The animals are coming. The elephants are walking through the midtown tunnel." I mean, I know I'm gullible, but come on! In all my four years of living here, I have never heard such a thing! Little did I know, he wasn't just grinding my gears. He was telling the truth. When I got to AK and explained my story to Rob and Katie Brown, Rob totally confirmed that it was, in fact, true.

Of course, I didn't want to look totally stupid in case I was "falling for it" again, so I went home and googled that ish...lo and behold: Myth true! The dang Barnum Bailey circus and their elephants caused me to be tardy. Geez, this sounds worse than the "dog ate my homework" bit. I swear, after all my "late" excuses, this one was sure to get their eyes rolling, but hey, I have documented proof this time!
